The first record of Freemasons marching in a parade
Scottish Rite Freemasonry NMJ
The first record of Freemasons marching in a parade wearing aprons, white gloves, and regalia was in 1738. Until the Great Depression of the 1930s, brothers would gather at the Lodge, don their regalia, and march in procession to a local church for a “Masonic Sermon”. The annual event was traditionally held on one of the Saints John Days, Christmas, or Easter. The first such recorded Masonic Sermon was by Rev. Charles Brockwell in Boston’s Christ’s Church on December 27, 1749.
