Sovereign Grand Lodge of Egypt
According to many Masonic scholars, the Egyptian Imhotep is regarded as the first true master architect and master mason, not to mention possibly the world's first genius. He designed and built the world's first known monumental stone building and the first Egyptian pyramid for King Djoser, the Step Pyramid. Both Hiram Abiff and Imhotep were Master Builders, but during different times in history; with Imhotep predating Hiram Abiff by 2000 years. Imhotep claimed the titles of Architect, Astronomer, Philosopher, Poet and Physician. As a Physician, Imhotep authored the Edwin Smith Papyrus (c.2000 B.C.), with more than 90 medical terms and injuries. The Greeks called him Asclepius, or god of medicine, but the name Imhotep also means "the one that comes in peace". The location of Imhotep's self-constructed tomb was well hidden from the beginning and it remains unknown, despite efforts to find it.
