Sovereign Grand Lodge of Egypt
At first glance, one would be forgiven to think this image was taken in Luxor or Aswan in Egypt. In fact, this image is the entrance of Freemasons Hall in the town of Boston in Lincolnshire, England. Erected in 1823, the entablature has an inscription in Egyptian hieroglyphics apparently reading 'In the 23rd year of the reign of Her Majesty the Royal Daughter Victoria, Lady Most Gracious, this building was erected. May it be prosperous'. Behind the open front is a steeply battered doorway with stone surround, surmounted by winged sun and the Latin inscription 'Know Thyself'. The building is a Grade II Listed English Heritage Building Site.
